Manam Volcano Erupts off the Coast of Papua New Guinea

A large eruption of the Manam Volcano off the east coast of Papua New Guinea spread ash across a wide area of the mainland, southwest of Manam Island. The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Darwin Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre is issuing advice to the international aviation industry to avoid Manam's volcanic ash cloud. This image was taken by the Suomi NPP satellite's VIIRS instrument high resolution infrared channel around 0310Z on July 31, 2015.
